May 18, 2011 Symphony Saddened By Loss of Long Time Member

Philip Zahorsky, bass trombonist and 38 year veteran of the region's leading orchestra, died this morning after an extended illness. He was a founding member of Symphony Silicon Valley and played with the orchestra until recently.

We are greatly saddened by his loss and extend our condolences to his wife, Eleanor Angel (Symphony violist), and his two children.  Phil was a treasured member of our orchestra and of the Ohlone College music faculty.

March 01, 2010 Symphony Silicon Valley moves into new ticketing and administrative offices
Symphony Silicon Valley's new offices, housing the Symphony administration, ticket office and music library, are located in the Dohrman Building at 325 South First Street in San Jose, next to the California Theatre on the north toward San Carlos Street.  Validated short-term parking is available for Symphony customers.

August 08, 2007 Symphony Silicon Valley adds multi-media exploration of Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring in 2007-08
Watch for a dynamic and innovative addition to Symphony Silicon Valley's core programming.  On June, 7 and 8, 2008, Beyond the Score ® Classical Music Exposed will invite listeners to take an in-depth look at a single masterwork: Stravinsky's brilliant and shocking The Rite of Spring.  Performed at the California Theatre, these two concerts will replace the previously scheduled final program of the Symphony's 2007-08 season.  Subscribers whose series include those dates will receive tickets to Beyond the Score® The Rite of Spring as part of their regular concert series.

October 12, 2005 Awards, applause – and lunch – for two Symphony supporters.
Pete Cartwright, Symphony Silicon Valley Board Chair and founder and CEO of Calpine Corporation, received the 2005 Arts & Business Award (ABBY) for Individual Business Leadership at a festive awards luncheon hosted by Arts Council Silicon Valley at the Westin Santa Clara on October 7, 2005.  Bowne & Company, Inc. was honored as one of seven nominees for the ABBY for First-Time Business Support, in recognition of its Title Sponsorship of tbe Symphony's December 2004 concert.

June 29, 2005 Symphony receives $1 million endowment gift, balances budget
Symphony Silicon Valley announced the creation of a permanent endowment fund today, with a one million dollar donation given for that purpose by Symphony Trustee John Griffin and his wife Hazel Griffin.

February 22, 2005 Symphony Silicon Valley Announces Plans for Fourth Season
Symphony Silicon Valley, the professional orchestra of the South Bay, continued its growth by announcing a 2005-06 season of seven pairs of concerts. These concerts will again be held at its newly restored home, The California Theatre. The programs were developed with audiences and musicians in mind as many sources were polled to find the right musical mix. Next season five guest conductors will share the podium for seven programs.

March 02, 2004 Symphony Silicon Valley Announces Its Move To The Historic California Theatre
Symphony Silicon Valley announced today that it will move its 2004-05 season
performances from the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts into the newly
renovated California Theater in downtown San Jose. Formerly a landmark
movie palace dating from 1927, the 1,100 seat theatre is being restored as
an opulent opera and concert performing facility.

July 16, 2003 Symphony Announces Spin Off from Ballet and Formation as an Independent Non-Profit
Peter Cartwright, Chairman and CEO of Calpine, announced today the formation of a new public benefit corporation, Symphony Silicon Valley. Cartwright said, "We saw how engaged our community was with the beauty and energy of great classical music performances in last season's concerts. We are proud to take the next step to ensure that symphonic music will be a part of our region for many years to come."
