Biography

Patricia Emerson Mitchell, oboe


Native Californian Patricia Emerson Mitchell is Principal Oboist of  Opera San José in addition to holding the position of second oboist  (frequently playing English horn as well) of Symphony Silicon Valley  and Ballet San Jose Silicon Valley. She was English hornist of the San  Jose Symphony from 1975 until it closed in 2002. She also performs  with San José Chamber Orchestra and American Musical Theatre San Jose, and she freelances in the Bay Area.

Ms. Mitchell teaches at University of California, Santa Cruz and maintains a private studio. In addition she manages a comprehensive oboe website, which can be seen here.

Discography includes Baz Luhrmann's Production of La Boheme, San Jose   Chamber Orchestra's CD, Mikey: The Music of Michael Touchi, American   Musical Theatre San Jose's CD Three Musketeers, Mountain Days; The John Muir Musical, and can also be heard on the Opera San José world premiere video of Ode to Phaedra.

When not involved in music and websites, Patricia enjoys instant messaging with her children and with musicians from around the country. She has three grown children and is married to Dan, a De Anza College instructor and fabulous photographer.
