Robert C. Weil, clarinet
Robert C. Weil currently performs with Symphony Silicon Valley and held the position of Second Clarinet with former San Jose Symphony for over 40 years.
He has also performed with all the other major instrumental ensembles in the South Bay, including American Musical Theatre, Opera San Josť, Ballet Silicon Valley, San Jose Chamber Orchestra, and San Jose Municipal Band. Mr. Weil played Second Clarinet with the Midsummer Mozart Festival for nearly thirty years, and was with the 561st Air Force Band for 6 years.
An accomplished big band jazz musician, Bob has appeared with such musical notables as Louis Bellson, Dave Brubeck, Henry Mancini, Burt Bacharach, Allyn Ferguson, Marvin Hamlisch, Michel LeGrand, Don Ellis, J. J. Johnson, and George Shearing.
Bob holds a B. A. degree in music, with a minor in mathematics, from San Jose State University. He studied clarinet with Clement Hutchinson at San Jose State, saxophone with Conrad Zempki (a Chicago studio musician) in Wisconsin, and has taken clarinet master classes with David Breeden, Louis Baez, and jazz studies with Randy Masters and Dwight Cannon.
Bob is married to Helene Joseph-Weil, Professor of Music (Voice & Opera) at California State University Fresno. They have one daughter, Nadine Alexis, who is a free-lance financial consultant in San Francisco. Bob holds a lifetime California teaching credential and taught music for the Union School District for five years. Currently he is employed as a prototype tool and die maker at Icore International in Santa Rosa.
