Biography

Wendell Rider, horn

Wendell Rider was Principal Horn with the San Jose Symphony for 32 years. He attended the Eastman School of Music and studied there with Verne Reynolds. Other teachers include Philip Farkas, Arnold Jacobs and Charles Bubb Jr. He is past President and Co-Founder of the Midsummer Mozart Festival. Since the demise of the San Jose Symphony, Wendell has started conducting a horn choir, completed his book, "Real World Horn Playing", which is sold all over the world via his website, and is selling photographic art prints of scenes from his backpacking and photo trips. His most recent project is giving horn lessons and consultations world wide over the internet using video conferencing. Heard frequently as a recitalist and soloist, he has appeared as soloist with the San Jose Symphony, Monterey Symphony, Monterey Bay Symphony and the Midsummer Mozart Festival. Wendell is on the faculty of Santa Clara University where he conducts the week long "Real World Horn Playing Seminar" every July. He can be contacted at www.wendellworld.com
