Motoko Toba, violin
Born in Pasadena, California, Ms. Toba began studying the violin in Japan at the age of six and continued her studies in Western Australia through high school. After completing her degree at Julliard School of Music she attend Yale University. She did her post graduate studies as a full scholarship student of Zakhar Bron. While studying at the Queen of Sofia Music Conservatory, she was the receipient of the Isaac Albeniz Foundation Scholarship as well as the Foreign Affairs Scholarship.
Ms. Toba has attended various music festivals through the world, including Aspen, Schleswig Holstein, Palacio de Festivales de Cantabria in Spain and the International Orchestral Institute in Austria.
She has performed throughout the world with various orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, the Spanish National Radio Orchestra and the San Francisco Symphony.
Currently, Ms. Toba is a member of Symphony Silicon Valley and the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra where she regularly performs as assistant concertmaster under Kent Nagano. She resides in Santa Clara with her husband.
